1. Looking at private parts of another 

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said, “A man must not look at a man’s private parts nor must a woman look at a woman’s private parts; neither should two men lie naked under one cover, nor should two women lie naked under the same cover.” [Muslim].

 وعن أبي سعيد رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال:  “لا ينظر الرجل إلى عورة الرجل، ولا المرأة إلى عورة المرأة، ولا يفضي الرجل إلى الرجل في ثوب واحد، ولا تفضي المرأة إلى المرأة في ثوب واحد”

رواه مسلم

2. Women walking with men in the street 

Narrated AbuUsayd al-Ansari: AbuUsayd heard the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) say when he was coming out of the mosque, and men and women were mingled in the road: Draw back, for you must not walk in the middle of the road; keep to the sides of the road. Then women were keeping so close to the wall that their garments were rubbing against it.  {Grade : Hasan (Al-Albani)}

 عَنْ حَمْزََة بنِ أبِي أسَيد الَأْنصَارِيِ ، عنْ أَبِيهِ، أََّنه سمِعَ رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يقُوُل وَُهوَ خَارِجٌ مِنَ اْلمَسْجد فاخْتلطَ الرِ جَاُل معَ النِ ساِء فِي الطرِيقِ فَقَاَل رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم للنِ ساِء  ” استَأْخرَْن فَِإنُه ليسَ لكنَّ أن تحْققنَ الطَّرِيقَ عليْكُنَّ بِحافَاتِ الطَّرِيقِ ” . فكاَنتِ  اْلمَرْأة تْلتَصِقُ بِاْلجَِدارِ حَتى إن ثوَْبَها ليتعََّلقُ بِاْلجدارِ مِنْ لصُوقَِها بِهِ

3.   Entering Bathhouses 

It was narrated from Abu Malih AL-Hudhail that some women from the people of Hims asked permission to enter upon Aisha. She said: “Perhaps you are among those (women) who enter bathhouses? I heard the Messenger of Allahﷺsay: ‘Any woman who takes off her clothes anywhere but in her husband’s house, has torn the screen between her and Allah.'” {Sunan Ibn Majah 3750 Hasan (Darussalam)}

  عَنْ أبِي اْلمَلِيحِ اْلُهذليِ ، أن نِسوًَة، مِنْ أَْهلِ حمصَ اسْتأذََّن عََلى عَائِشََة فقاَلتْ لعََّلكُنَّ مِنَ الَّلوَاتِي يدخُْلنَ اْلحَمَّاَماتِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يقوُل  ” أيمَا اْمرَأَةٍ وَضَعَتْ ثِيَاَبَها فِي غيْرِ بيتِ زَوْجها فقد هتكَتْ سِترَ ما بينها وََبيْنَ اَّلِلّ ”

 4. Ingratitude

Asma’ was heard to say that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, passed by a group of women sitting down in the mosque. He said to the salam with his hand and said, “Beware of the ingratitude of those with blessings. Beware of the ingratitude of those with blessings.” One of them said, “We seek refuge with Prophet, Prophet of Allah, from ingratitude for the blessings of Allah.” He said, “Yes. One of you women might have been without a husband for a long time (and then Allah provides her with one) and she becomes angry and says, ‘By Allah, I have never seen a hour of good from you. That is ingratitude for the blessings of Allah. That is the ingratitude of those with blessings.'” {Sahih (Al-Albani) Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 1047}

 عَنْ  شَْه رٍ قاَ ل: سَمِعْ تُ أسْمَاَء،أََّنالنَّبِيَّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم مرَّفِي اْلمَسْجد،وَعُصْبة  مِنَ  النِ ساِءقعُوٌد،قَال بِيد هِ إَِليهِ نَّ بِالسَّلَامِ،فقاَ ل: إَِّياكُ نَّ وَكُفرَاَ ن اْلمنعِمِينَ  ، إَِّياكنَّ  وَكفرَان اْلمُنعِمِينَ،قاَلتْ  إِحداُهنَّ : نعُوذُ  بِاَّلِلّ  ياَنبِ يَّ الِله  مِ نْ كفرَان نِعَ مِ الِله،قاَل : بَلى إَِّن  إِحَْداكُنَّ      تطُوُ ل أَْيمَتها،ثمَّ  تغْضَ بُ اْلغَضْبََة  فَتَقُوُل :وَاَّلِلّ  مارَأَْي تُ مِنه  سَاعًَ ة خَيرًا قطُّ، فذلكَ  كفْرَان نِعَ مِ الِله، وَذلكَ    كفْرَاُن  نِعَمِ    اْلمنعِمِينَ

5. Shaking hands with opposite sex 

Muhammad bin Munkadir said that he heard Umaimah bint Ruqaiqah say: “I came to the Prophet(ﷺ) with some other women, to offer our pledge to him. He said to us: ‘(I accept your pledge) with regard to what you are able to do. But I do not shake hands with women.’” {Sahih (Darussalam) Sunan Ibn Majah2874}

  سمِعَ محَمََّد بنَ اْلمُنكدرِ، قاَل سمِعْتُ أَُميْمََة بِنتَ رُقَيْقة، تقوُل جئتُ النبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي نِسْوَةٍ نبَايِعُُه فقَاَل لنا  ” فِيمَا اسْتَطعْتُنَّ وَأطقْتُنَّ إ نِي لَا أُصَافِحُ النِ سَاَء ”

6. Women and leadership 

Narrated Abu Bakra: During the battle of Al-Jamal, Allah benefited me with a Word (I heard from the Prophet). When the Prophet heard the news that the people of the Persia had made the daughter of Khosrau their Queen (ruler), he said, “Never will succeed such a nation as makes a woman their ruler.”  {Sahih al-Bukhari 7099}

 عَنْ أبَيِ بَكْرَةَ ،قاَلَ لَقدَْ نَفَعنَيِ الل بِكَلِمَةٍ أيَاَّمَ الْجَمَلِ لَمَّا بَلَغَ النبَّيَِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أنََّ فاَرِسًا مَلكَُّوا ابْنةََ كِسْرَى قاَلَ  ” لنَْ يفُْلِحَ قوَْمٌ وَلوَّْا أمَْرَهُمُ امْرَأةًَ “

7. Regarding why women are deficient in intelligence and religion 

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Once Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)  went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of `Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, “O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women).” They asked, “Why is it so, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)   “? He replied, “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.” The women asked, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)  !What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?” He said, “Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?” They replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn’t it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?” The women replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her religion.” {Sahih al-Bukhari 304}

  عَنْ أبِي سَعِيٍد اْلخُْدرِيِ ، قاَل خَرَجَ رَسوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي أضْحًى ـ أوْ فِطْرٍ ـ إَِلى اْلمُصلى، فَمرَّ عََلى النِ سَاِء فقاَل  يا معْشَرَ النِ ساِء تصدقْنَ، فَِإ نِي أُرِيتكنَّ أكثرَ أهلِ النارِ “. فَقُْلنَ وَبِمَ يا رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ قَاَل ” تكثِرَْن الَّلعْنَ، وََتكفرَْن اْلعَشِيرَ، ما رَأَْيتُ مِنْ نا قِصَاتِ عَقلٍ وَِدينٍ أَذَْهبَ لُلبِ  الرَّجلِ اْلحَازِمِ مِنْ إِحَْداكنَّ “. قلنَ وََما نقصَاُن دينِنَا وَعقلِنَا يا رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ قاَل ” أليْسَ شََهاَدُة اْلمَرْأةِ مِثْلَ نِصفِ شهاَدةِ الرَّجُلِ “. قلنَ بَلى. قاَل ” فذلكَ مِنْ نقصانِ عَقْلَِها، أََليسَ إِذَا حَاضَتْ لمْ تصَلِ  وََلمْ تصمْ “. قلنَ بَلى. قَاَل ” فََذلكَ مِنْ نقصَانِ دينَِها “

 8. Turning effeminate men and women out of your houses 

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ)  cursed effeminate men (those men who are in the similitude (assume the manners of women) and those women who assume the manners of men, and he said, “Turn them out of your houses .” The Prophet (ﷺ)  turned out such-and-such man, and `Umar turned out such and-such woman. {Sahih al-Bukhari 5886} 

عَنِ اْبنِ عَباسٍ، قاَل لعَنَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم اْلمُخَنثِينَ مِنَ الرِ جَالِ، وَاْلمُترَج لَاتِ مِنَ النِ ساِء وَقَاَل   ”أَخرِجوُهمْ مِنْ بيوتِكمْ قاَل فأخْرَجَ النبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فُلَاًنا، وَأَخْرَجَ  عمرُ فُلانا .   

9. Why most women are fuel for hell-fire 

Jabir b. ‘Abdullah reported: I observed prayer with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)  on the ‘Id day. He commenced with prayer before the sermon without Adhan and Iqama. He then stood up leaning on Bilal, and he commanded (them) to be on guard (against evil for the sake of) Allah, and he exhorted (them) on obedience to Him, and he preached to the people and admonished them. He then walked on till he came to the women and preached to them and admonished them, and asked them to give alms, for most of them are the fuel for Hell. A woman having a dark spot on the cheek stood up and said: Why is it so, Messenger of Allah? He said: For you grumble often and show ingratitude to your spouse. And then they began to give alms out of their ornaments such as their earrings and rings which they threw on to the cloth of Bilal. { Sahih Muslim 885 b}

 عَنْ جَابِرِ بنِ عَبد اَّلِلّ، قاَل شَهِْدتُ معَ رَسولِ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم الصَّلَاَة يوْمَ اْلعِيِد فبََدأَ بِالصلَاةِ قَبلَ اْلخُطْبةِ بِغَيرِ أذَانٍ وَلَا إِقاَمةٍ ثمَّ قَامَ متَوَكِ ئًا عََلى بِلَالٍ فأمرَ بِتقوَى اَّلِلّ  وَحَثَّ عََلى طاعتِهِ وَوَعظَ الناسَ وَذَكَّرَُهمْ ثمَّ مضَى حَتى أتى النِ سَاَء فَوَعظهنَّ وَذكَّرَُهنَّ فَقَاَل تصََّدقنَ فإَّن أكثرَكنَّ حَطَبُ جهنَّمَ فقاَمتْ اْمرَأٌَة مِنْ سِطَةِ النِ سَاِء سَفعَاُء اْلخََّدْينِ فقاَلتْ  لمَ يا رَسوَل اَّلِلّ قَاَل لَأَّنكنَّ تكثِرَْن الشَّكاَة وََتكفرَْن اْلعَشِيرَ قَاَل فَجَعَْلنَ يتَصََّدقْنَ مِنْ حُلِي هِنَّ يْلقِينَ فِي ثوْبِ بَِلالٍ مِنْ أقْرِطَتِهِنَّ وَخَوَاتِمِهِنَّ   

10.   Wailing women 

Abu Malik al-Ash’ari reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)  as saying: Among my people there are four characteristics belonging to pre-Islamic period which they do not abandon: boasting of high rank, reviling other peoples’ genealogies, seeking rain by stars, and wailing. And he (further) said: If the wailing woman does not repent before she dies, she will be made to stand on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of pitch and a chemise of mange. {Sahih Muslim 934} 

أََبا ماِلكٍ الَأشْعَرِيَّ حََّدَثُه أن النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَاَل  أرَْبعٌ فِي أمتِي مِنْ أمرِ اْلجاهِلِيَّةِ لَا يتْرُكُوَنهنَّ اْلفَخْرُ فِي الَأحْسَابِ وَالطَّعْنُ فِي الَأْنسابِ وَالِاستِسْقَاُء بِالنُّجُومِ وَالنِ ياحَُة ” . وَقاَل ” النَّائِحة إِذَا لمْ تتُبْ قب لَ موْتَِها تقامُ يوْمَ اْلقِيَاَمةِ وَعليَْها سِرَْباٌل مِنْ قطِرَانٍ وَِدرْعٌ مِنْ جَرَبٍ ” 

11. The best woman 

Narrated Abu Hurairah: It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “It was said to the Messenger of Allah: ‘Which woman is best?’ He said: ‘The one who makes him happy when he looks at her, obeys him when he commands her, and she does not go against his wishes with regard to herself nor her wealth.’” {Hasan (Darussalam) Sunan an-Nasa’i 3231}

عَنْ أبِي هرَْيرََة، قاَل قِيلَ لرَسُولِ اَّ لِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أىُّ النِ سَاِء خَيرٌ قَاَل اَّلتِي تسرُُّه إِذَا نظَرَ وَُتطِيعُُه إِذَا أمرَ وَلَا تخَاِلفه فِي نفسَِها وََماِلَها بِما يكْرَُه ”  

12. A woman is forbidden to shave her head

Ali narrated: “The Messenger of Allah prohibited that a woman should shave her head.” {Hasan (Darussalam) Jami` at-Tirmidhi 914 }

 عَنْ عَلِيٍ ، قاَل نَهى رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَْن تحْلِقَ اْلمَرْأة رَأسََها .

13. Rewards of a good wife 

Umm Salamah narrated that The Messenger of Allah said: “Whichever woman dies while her husband is pleased with her, then she enters Paradise.” {Hasan (Darussalam) Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1161}  

 عَنْ أمِ  سََلمََة، قاَلتْ قاَل رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم “أيمَا اْمرَأةٍ ماَتتْ وَزَوْجَُها عَنها رَاٍض دخلتِ اْلجَنة

14. Protective jealousy 

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: The Messenger of Allah said: “There is a kind of protective jealousy that Allah loves and a kind that Allah hates. As for that which Allah loves, it is protective jealousy when there are grounds for suspicion. And as for that which He hates, it is protective jealousy when there are no grounds for suspicion.” {Sahih (Darussalam) Arabic : Book 9, Hadith 2074 Sunan Ibn Majah }

أَبي هرَْيرََة، قاَل قَاَل رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ “مِنَ اْلغَيرَةِ ما يحبُّ اَّلُلّ وَمِنها ما يكْرَُه اَّلُلّ فَأََّما ما يحبُّ فاْلغَيرَُة فِي الرِ يبةِ وَأما ما يكْرَُه فَاْلغَيرَُة فِي غَيرِ رِيبةٍ

1. What Has Been Narrated Concerning Women Leaving (Their House) For The Masjid

Ibn ‘Umar reported the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) as saying; Do not prevent your women from visiting the mosque; but their houses are better for them (for praying).

“عَنِ اْبنِ عُمَرَ، قاَل قاَل رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ” لَا تمْنعُوا نِسَاَءكمُ اْلمَسَاجد وَُبيُوُتُهنَّ خيْرٌ لهنَّ ”
Grade : Sahih (Al-Albani)

2. Friday Prayer

Narrated Ibn `Umar:
One of the wives of `Umar (bin Al-Khattab) used to offer the Fajr and the `Isha’ prayer in
congregation in the Mosque. She was asked why she had come out for the prayer as she knew that `Umar disliked it, and he has great ghaira (self-respect). She replied, “What prevents him from stopping me from this act?” The other replied, “The statement of Allah’s Messenger(ﷺ)’ :Do not stop Allah’s women-slaves from going to Allah’s Mosques’ prevents him.”

عَنِ اْبنِ عُمَرَ، قاَل كاَنتِ اْمرَأٌَة لعُمَرَ تشهد صَلاة الصُّبحِ وَاْلعِشَاِء فِي اْلجَمَاعَةِ فِي اْلمَسجِِد، فقِيلَ لها لمَ تخْرُجينَ وَقد تعَْلمِينَ أن عُمَرَ يكْرَُه ذَِلكَ وََيغَارُ قَاَلتْ وََما يمْنعُُه أن ينهانِي
قاَل يمْنَعُُه قَوُْل رَسُولِ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ” لَا تمْنَعُوا إَِماَء اَّلِلّه مسَاجد اَّ لِلّه

Sahih al-Bukhari 900

3. Woman traveling alone, even to hajj

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet said, “A woman should not travel except with a Dhu-Mahram (her husband or a man with whom that woman cannot marry at all according to the Islamic Jurisprudence), and no man may visit her except in the presence of a Dhu-Mahram.” A man got up and said, “O Allah’s Messenger I intend to go to such and such an army and my wife wants to perform Hajj.” The Prophetsaid (to him), “Go along with her (to Hajj).

عَنِ اْبنِ عَباسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قاَل قَاَل النبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ” لَا تسَافِرِ اْلمَرْأة إِلَّا معَ ذي محْرَمٍ، وَلَا يْدخُلُ عََل يها رَجُلٌ إِلَّا وََمعََها محرَمٌ “. فَقَاَل رَجُلٌ يا رَسُوَل
اَّلِلّ إِ نِي أرِيُد أن أخرُجَ جَيْشِ كذا وَكذا، وَاْمرَأتِي ترِيُد اْلحَجَّ . فَقَاَل ” اخرُجْ معََها

Sahih al-Bukhari 1862

4. The Tawaf of women and men

Ibn Juraij said, “ `Ata informed us that when Ibn Hisham forbade women to perform Tawaf with men he said to him, ‘How do you forbid them while the wives of the Prophet(ﷺ) used to perform Tawaf with the men?’ I said, ‘Was this before decreeing of the use of the veil or after it? `Ata took an oath and said, ‘I saw it after the order of veil.’ I said, ‘How did they mix with the men?’ `Ata said, ‘The women never mixed with the men, and `A’ishah used to perform Tawaf separately and never mixed with men. Once it happened that `A’ishah was performing the Tawaf and woman said to her, ‘O Mother of believers! Let us touch the Black stone.’ `A’ishah said to her, ‘Go yourself,’ and she herself refused to do so. The wives of the Prophet(ﷺ) used to come out in night, in disguise and used to perform Tawaf with men. But whenever they intended to enter the Ka`bah, they would stay outside till the men had gone out. I and `Ubaid bin `Umair used to visit `A’ishah while she was residing at JaufThabir.” I asked, “What was her veil?” `Ata said, “She was wearing an old Turkish veil, and that was the only thing (veil) which was screen between us and her. I saw a pink cover on her.”

قَاَل اْبنُ جُرَْيجٍ أخْبرََنا قاَل أخبَرَنِي عطاٌء، إذْ منعَ اْبنُ هِشَامٍ النِ سَاَء الطَّ وَافَ معَ الرِ جالِ قاَل كَيفَ يمْنَعُُهنَّ، وَقد طَافَ نِسَاُء النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم معَ الرِ جَالِ قلتُ أبعَْد اْلحجَابِ أوْ قَبْلُ قَاَل إِي لعَمرِي لقَْد أدرَكته بعَْد اْلحجَابِ . قلتُ كيْفَ يخاِلطنَ الرِ جَاَل قَاَل لمْ يكنَّ يخَاِلطْنَ كاَنتْ عَائِشة ـ رضى الله عنها ـ تطُوفُ حَجْرًَة مِنَ الرِ جَالِ لَا تخَاِلطُُهمْ، فقَاَلتِ اْمرَأٌَة اْنطَلِقِي نسْتلِمْ يا أمَّ اْلمُؤْمِنِي نَ. قاَلتْ }اْنطلِقِي{ عَنْ كِ. وَأب تْ. }وَكنَّ { يخْرُج نَ متنكِ رَاتٍ بِالَّليْلِ، فَيطُفْنَ معَ الرِ جَالِ، وََلكِنهنَّ كنَّ إِذَا دخلنَ اْلبَيْتَ قمْنَ حَتى يْدخُْلنَ وَأخْرِجَ الرِ جَاُل، وَكنتُ آتِي عائِشة أنا وَعُبيد بنُ عُمَيرٍ وَهِيَ مجَاوِرٌَة فِي جَوْفِ ثبِيرٍ . قلتُ وََما حِجَاُبَها قاَل هِيَ فِي قبةٍ ترْكِيةٍ لَها غِشاٌء، وََما بيْننا وََبينها غَيرُ
ذَِلكَ، وَرَأيتُ عليَْها درْعا موَرًَّدا

Sahih al-Bukhari 1618

5. Getting the attention of the Imam

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet(ﷺ) said, “The saying ‘Sub Han Allah’ is for men and clapping is for women.” (If something happens in the prayer, the men can invite the attention of the Imam by saying “Sub Han Allah”. And women, by clapping their hands).

عَنْ أبِي هرَْيرََة ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عنِ النَّبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قاَل ” التَّسْبِيحُ للرِ جالِ وَالتصْفِيقُ للن سَاِء

Sahih al-Bukhari 1203

6. Wearing niqab and gloves while in ihram

Ibn ‘Umar reported that the Prophet( )ﷺas saying A woman in the sacred state (wearing ihram) must not be veiled or wear gloves.
عَنِ اْبنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قاَل ” اْلمُحْرَِمُة لَا تنتقِبُ وَلَا تْلبسُ اْلقفازَْينِ

Grade : Sahih (Al-Albani) SunanAbiDawud 1826

7. Permission For Women To Go Out To The ‘Id Prayer And Attend The Khutbah, Separated From The Men

Umm ‘Atiyya reported:
The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) commanded us to bring out on’Id-ul-Fitr and ‘Id-ul-Adha young women, menstruating women and purdah-observing ladies, menstruating women kept back from prayer, but participated in goodness and supplication of the Muslims. I said: Messenger of Allah, one of us does not have an outer garment (to cover her face and body). He said: Let her sister cover her with her outer garment.

عَنْ أمِ عَطِية، قَاَلتْ أمرََنا رَسُوُل اَّلِلّه صلى الله عليه وسلم أن نخْرِجَُهنَّ فِي اْلفِطْرِ وَالَأضحى اْلعَوَاتِقَ وَاْلحُيضَ وَذَوَاتِ اْلخُُدورِ فأما اْلحُيضُ فيَعْتَزِْلنَ الصلَاَة وََيشَْهْدن اْلخَيرَ وََدعْوََة
اْلمُسْلِمِينَ . قلتُ يا رَسوَل اَّلِلّ إحَْداَنا لَا يكوُن لَها جلبابٌ قاَل ” لتلبِسها أُختَُها مِنْ جِْلبابَِها

8. Conditions before going to mosque

‘Amra, daughter of Abd al-Rahmin, reported:
I heard ‘A’isha, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) .Say: If the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had seen what new things the women have introduced (in their way of life) he would have definitely prevented them from going to the mosque, as the women of BaniIsra’il were prevented.

عنْ عَمْرََة بِنتِ عَبد الرَّحْمَنِ، أنَها سمِعَتْ عَائِشََة، زَوْجَ النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم تقوُل لوْ أََّن رَسوَل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَأى ما أحَْدثَ النِ ساُء لمَنَعَُهنَّ اْلمسْجد كمَا منِعَتْ
نِسَاُء بنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ . قاَل فقلتُ لعَمرََة أنِسَاُء بنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ منِعْنَ اْلمَسجَِد قَاَلتْ نعَمْ

Sahih Muslim 445 a

9. Excessive worship

Narrated ‘Aisha:
Once the Prophet (ﷺ) came while a woman was sitting with me. He said, “Who is she?” I replied, “She is so and so,” and told him about her (excessive) praying. He said disapprovingly, “Do (good) deeds which is within your capacity (without being overtaxed) as Allah does not get tired (of giving rewards) but (surely) you will get tired and the best deed (act of Worship) in the sight of Allah is that which is done regularly.”

عَنْ عَائِشََة، أن النبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم دخلَ عََليَْها وَعِندَها اْمرَأة قاَل منْ هذهِ “. قاَلتْ فلَاَنُة . تذكُرُ مِنْ صَلَاتَِ ها. قاَل ” مْه، عََليكمْ بِمَا تطِيقوَن، فَوَاَّلِلّ لَا يمَلُّ اَّلُلّ حَتى
تمَُّلوا “. وَكاَن أَحبَّ الِ دينِ إَِليْهِ ما دامَ عََليهِ صَاحبه

10. Missing prayer while on menstrual period

Narrated Mu`adha:
A woman asked `Aisha, “Should I offer the prayers that which I did not offer because of menses” `Aisha said, “Are you from the Huraura’ (a town in Iraq?) We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) and used to get our periods but he never ordered us to offer them (the Prayers missed during menses).” `Aisha perhaps said, “We did not offer them.”

حََّدَثنا موسَى بنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، قاَل حدَثنَا همَّامٌ، قَاَل حََّدَثنا قتاَدُة، قاَل حََّدَثتنِي معَاذَُة، أن اْمرَأًَة، قَاَلتْ لعَائِ شة أََتجْزِي إِحَْداَنا صَلَاَتَها إِذَا طهرَتْ فقاَلتْ أَحَرُورَِّيٌة أنتِ كنا نحيضُ معَ النَّبِيِ
صلى الله عليه وسلم فَلَا يأمرَُنا بِهِ. أَوْ قاَلتْ فلَا نفْعَُله

11. Disrupting prayer

a. Narrated `Aisha:
The things which annul prayer were mentioned before me (and those were): a dog, a donkey and a woman. I said, “You have compared us (women) to donkeys and dogs. By Allah! I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) praying while I used to lie in (my) bed between him and the Qibla. Whenever I was in need of something, I disliked to sit and trouble the Prophet. So, I would slip away by the side of his feet.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 514

عن عَائِشََة، ذُكِرَ عِندَها ما يقطعُ الصلَاَة اْلكَْلبُ وَاْلحمَارُ وَاْلمَرْأة فقاَلتْ شَبَّْهتمُوَنا بِاْلحمُرِ وَاْلكِلابِ، وَاَّلِلّ لقَْد رَأيتُ النبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يص لِي، وَإ نِي عََلى السَّرِيرِ ـ بينه
وََبينَ اْلقِبَْلةِ ـ مضطجِعًَة فَتبدو لي اْلحَاجَُة، فأكرَُه أن أجْلِسَ فَأُوِذيَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فأنسَلُّ مِنْ عِند رِجَْليْهِ

b. Narrated `Urwa:
The Prophet (ﷺ) prayed while `Aisha was lying between him and his Qibla on the bed on which they used to sleep.

عَنْ عُرْوََة، أن النبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَاَن يصَ لِي وَعَائِشَُة معْترِضٌَة بينه وََبينَ اْلقِبَْلةِ على اْلفِرَاشِ اَّلِذي يناَمانِ عََليهِ

12. Performing hajj on behalf of your unable father

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
A woman from the tribe of Khath’am asked for the verdict of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ( regarding something) during Hajjat-ul-Wada` while Al-Fadl bin `Abbas was the companion-rider behind Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) .She asked, “Allah’s ordained obligation (i.e. compulsory Hajj) enjoined on His slaves has become due on my old father who cannot sit firmly on the riding animal. Will it be sufficient if I perform the Hajj on his behalf?” He said, “Yes.”

عَنِ اْبنِ عَباسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أن اْمرَأًَة، مِنْ خَثعَمَ اسْتفتتْ رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي حجةِ اْلوََداعِ وَاْلفضْلُ بنُ عَباسٍ رَِديفُ رَسُولِ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَاَلتْ
يا رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ إَِّن فرِيضََة اَّلِلّ عََلى عِبَاِدهِ أَْدرَكَتْ أَبِي شَيخًا كبِيرًا لَا يسْتطِيعُ أن يستَوِيَ على الر احلةِ، فََهلْ يقضِي أن أحُجَّ عَنه قَاَل : نعَمْ


13. Fasting in the presence of your husband Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “A woman should not fast (optional fasts) except with her husband’s permission if he is at home (staying with her).

عَنْ أبِي هرَْيرََة، عَنِ النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم “لَا تصُومُ اْلمَرْأة وََبعُْلها شَاهٌِد إِلَّا بِِإذْنِهِ

14. Performing hajj on behalf of your deceased mother

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
A woman came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, “My mother vowed to perform the Hajj but she died before performing it. Should I perform the Hajj on her behalf?” He said, “Yes! Perform the Hajj on her behalf. See, if your mother had been in debt, would you have paid her debt?” She said, “Yes.” He said, “So you should pay what is for Him as Allah has more right that one should fulfill one’s obligations to Him. “

عَنِ اْبنِ عَباسٍ، أن اْمرَأة، جَاَءتْ إَِلى النَّبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فقاَلتْ إَِّن أ مِي نَذرَتْ أن تحجَّ فمَاَتتْ قَبلَ أَْن تحُجَّ أفأحُجَّ عَنها قاَل نعَمْ حج ي عنَْها، أَرَأَْيتِ لوْ كَاَن عََلى
أمِكِ دْينٌ أكنتِ قاضِيتَُه “. قاَلتْ نعَمْ . فَقَاَل فاقضُوا اَّلِذي لُه، فَِإَّن اَّلَلّ أحقُّ بِاْلوَفاِء

15. Repaying missed prayers while on menses

Mu’adha reported:
A woman asked ‘A’isha: Should one amongst us complete prayers abandoned during the period of menses? ‘A’isha said: Are you a Haruriya? When any one of us during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was in her menses (and abandoned prayer) she was not required to complete them.
Sahih Muslim 335 a

عَنْ معَاذََة، أن اْمرَأة، سَألتْ عائِشة فقاَلتْ أََتقْضِي إِحَْداَنا الصَّلَاَة أيا مَ محِيضَِها فَقاَلتْ عائِشة أَحَرُورَِّية أَْنتِ قد كاَنتْ إِحَْداَنا تحيضُ عََلى عهد رَسولِ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثمَّ لَا
تؤَْمرُ بِقضَاٍء

16. Standing formation when praying with opposite gender

Abdullah b. Al-Mukhtar heard Musa b. Anas narrating on the authority of Anas b. Malik that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led him, his mother or his aunt in prayer. He made me, stand on his right side and made the woman stand, behind us.
Sahih Muslim 660 b

عَنْ أنَسَِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أنََّ رَسُولَ الل صلى الله عليه وسلم صَلىَّ بهِِ وَبِأ مُِهِ أوَْ خَالتَهِِ . قاَلَ فأَقَاَمَنيِ عَنْ يمَِينهِِ وَأقَاَمَ الْمَرْأةََ خَلْفنَاَ

17. Repaying fasts of a deceased relative

Ibn ‘Abbas (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported:
A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: My mother has died, and fasts of a month are due from her. Thereupon he said: Don’t you see that if debt was due from her, would you not pay it? She said: Yes (I would pay on her behalf). Thereupon he said: The debt of Allah deserves its payment more than (the payment of anyone else).
Sahih Muslim 1148 a

عَنِ اْبنِ عَباسٍ، – رضى الله عنهما – أن اْمرَأة، أََتتْ رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فقَاَلتْ إَِّن أ مِي ماَتتْ وَعََليها صَوْمُ شَْ هرٍ . فقاَل أرَأَْيتِ لوْ كَاَن عليها دينٌ أَكُنت
تقْضِينه ” . قاَلتْ نعَمْ . قَاَل ” فََدْينُ اَّلِلّ أَحَقُّ بِاْلقضَاِء

18. Umrah in ramadhan equals to Hajj

Ataa reported:
I heard Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) narrating to us that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said to a woman of the Ansar (Ibn Abbas had mentioned her name but I have forgotten it): ‘What has prevented you that you do not perform Hajj along with us? She said: We have only two camels for carrying water. One of the camels has been taken by my husband and my son for performing Hajj and one has been left for us for carrying water, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: So when the month of Ramadan come, perform Umra, for’Umra in this (month) is equal to Hajj (in reward). Sahih Muslim 1255 b

عَطَاٌء، قاَل سَمِعْتُ اْبنَ عَباسٍ، يح دثنَا قاَل قاَل رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لِاْمرَأةٍ مِنَ الَأْنصارِ سمَّاَها اْبنُ عَبَّاسٍ فنسِيتُ اسْمََها ما منعَكِ أن تحُجِ ي معَنَا ” . قَاَلتْ لمْ
يكنْ لنا إِلَّا ناضِحَانِ فحجَّ أَُبو وََلِدَها وَاْبنها عََلى ناضِحٍ وََترَكَ لنا ناضِحا ننْضِحُ عليهِ قَاَل ” فإذَا جَاَء رََمضَاُن فاعْتمِرِي فَِإَّن عمْرًَة فِيهِ تعِْدُل حَجًَّة

19. Hajj for children and rewards for the parent

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas that:
The Messenger of Allah passed by a woman when she was in her seclusion and had a child with her.
She said: “Is there Hajj for this one?’’ He said: “Yes, and you will be rewarded.’’

Sunan an-Nasa’i 2649

عَنِ اْبنِ عَباسٍ، أن رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مرَّ بِاْمرَأةٍ وَهِيَ فِي خدرَِها معََها صَبِيٌّ فقاَلتْ ألَهذا حَجٌّ قَاَل “نعَمْ وََلكِ أجْرٌ

20. A woman gifting from her wealth

It was narrated from ‘Amr bin Shu’aib, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah said:“It is not permissible for a woman to give a gift from her wealth, once her husband has marital authority over her.” This is the wording of (one of the narrators) Muhammad.

عَنْ عَمْرِو بنِ شُعَيبٍ، عَنْ أبِيهِ، عنْ ج دهِ، أََّن رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قاَل : لَا يجُوزُ لِاْمرَأةٍ هِبٌَة فِي ماِلَها إِذَا مَلكَ زَوْجَُها عِصْمَتها

21. Giving charity from household foodstuff

Narrated `Aisha:
Allah’s Messenger ()ﷺ said, “When a woman gives in charity some of the foodstuff (which she has in her house) without spoiling it, she will receive the reward for what she has spent, and her husband will receive the reward because of his earning, and the storekeeper will also have a reward similar to it. The reward of one will not decrease the reward of the others . “
Sahih al-Bukhari 1425

عَنْ عَائِشََة ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قاَلتْ قاَل رَسوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا أنفقتِ اْلمَرأة مِنْ طَعَامِ بيتَِها غَيْرَ مفسَِدةٍ كاَن لَها أجْرَُها بِمَا أَْنفقتْ وَِلزَوْجها أَجْرُُه بِمَا كسَبَ، وَِلْلخَازِنِ
مِثلُ ذَِلكَ، لَا ينْقصُ بعْضُُهمْ أَجْرَ بعٍْض شَيئا

22. Giving charity without the husband’s permission

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet ()ﷺ said, “If a woman gives something (i.e. in charity) from her husband’s earnings without his permission, she will get half his reward.” Sahih al-Bukhari 2066

عَنْ همَّامٍ، قاَل سَمِعْتُ أبا هرَْيرََة ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قاَل إِذَا أَْنفقتِ اْلمرْأَُة مِنْ كسْبِ زَوْجها عَنْ غَيرِ أمرِهِ، فََله نِصفُ أجرِهِ

23. A woman’s prayer is better in her house and best in her private chamber

“Abd Allah (b. Mas’ud) reported the prophet (ﷺ) as saying; it is more excellent for a woman to pray in her house than in her courtyard, and more excellent for her to pray in her private chamber than in her house.

B. CLOTHES AND ADORNMENTS                                                                                        كتاب اللباس والزينة

1. Adding false hair

A’isha reported that a girl of the Ansar who had fallen ill and had lost the hair was married. They (her relatives) thought of adding false hair (to her head). So they asked Allah’s Messenger(ﷺ) about it, whereupon he cursed the woman who adds false hair and the woman who asks for it.
Sahih Muslim 2123 a

عَنْ عَائِشََة، أن جَارَِيًة، مِنَ الَأْنصارِ تزَوَّجتْ وَأََّنها مرِضَتْ فتمَرَّطَ شَعْرَُها فأرَاُدوا
أَْن يصُِلوُه فسألوا رَسُوَل اَّلِلّه صلى الله عليه وسلم عنْ ذَِلكَ فََلعَنَ اْلوَاصَِلَة وَاْلمُسْتوْصَِلَة

2. Tattooing

Ibn ‘Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) said:
The Messenger of Allah cursed the maker and wearer of a wig and the tattooer and the one who is tattooed.
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim

وعن ابن عمر رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ةلعن الواصلة والمستوصلة والواشمةوالمستوش
(متفق عليه)

3. Creating spaces between teeth, plucking hair from the face

Narrated Ibn Mas`ud:
Allah has cursed those women who practise tattooing or get it done for themselves, and those who remove hair from their faces, and those who create spaces between their teeth artificially to look beautiful, such ladies as change the features created by Allah. Why then shall I not curse those whom Allah’s Messenger has cursed and who are cursed in Allah’s Book too?

عَنِ اْبنِ مسْعُوٍد ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قاَل لعَنَ اَّلُلّ اْلوَاشِمَاتِ، وَاْلمُسْتوْشِمَاتِ، وَاْلمُتَنَم صاتِ وَاْلمُتفَ لِجَاتِ لْلحُسْنِ، اْلمُغَي رَاتِ خَْلقَ اَّلِلّ، ما لي لَا أَْلعَنُ منْ لعَنه رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَْهوَ فِي كِتَابِ اَّ لِلّ.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5943

4. Evil make-up

Sa, id b. Musayyib reported that Mu’awiya said one day:
Should I narrate to you the evil make-up. Allah’s Apostle(ﷺ) forbade cheating. It was during that time that a person came with a staff and there was a cloth on its head, whereupon Mu’awiya said: Behold, that is cheating. Qatada said: This implies how women artificially increase their hair with the help of rags.

عَنْ سَعِيِد بنِ اْلمُسَيبِ، أن معَاوَِيَة، قاَل ذَاتَ يوْمٍ إَّ نكُمْ قد أحَْدْثتمْ زِيَّ سَوٍْء وَإَِّن نبِيَّ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهى عَنِ الزُّورِ . قاَل وَجَاَء رَجلٌ بِعَصا عََلى رَأسَِها خرْقة قاَل معَاوَِيُة ألَا وََهذا الزُّورُ . قَاَل قَتَاَدُة يعْنِي ما يكثِ رُ بِهِ النِ سَاء أشعَارَُهنَّ مِنَ اْلخرَقِ
. Sahih Muslim 2127 d

5. False impression

It was narrated from Sa’eed bin Al-Musayyab that Mu’awiyah said:
“The Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbade giving a false impression.”

عَنْ سَعِيِد بنِ اْلمُسَيبِ، أََّن معَا وَيَة، قَاَل إَِّن رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهى عَنِ الزُّورِ .

6. Wearing revealing clothes (tight, transparent attire)

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger(ﷺ) as saying:
Two are the types amongst the denizens of Hell, the one possessing whips like the tail of an ox and they flog people with their help. (The second one) the women who would be naked in spite of their being dressed, who are seduced (to wrong paths) and seduce others with their hair high like humps. These women would not get into Paradise and they would not perceive the odour of Paradise, although its fragrance can be perceived from such and such distance (from great distance).

عَنْ أبِي هرَْيرََة، قاَل قَاَل رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ” صِنفَانِ مِنْ أهلِ النارِ لمْ أرَُهمَا قَوْمٌ معَُهمْ سِيَاطٌ كأذَْنابِ اْلبقرِ يضْرُِبوَن بَِها النَّاسَ وَنِسَاٌء كَاسِياتٌ عَارَِياتٌ ممِيلَاتٌ مائِلَاتٌ رُُءوسهنَّ كَأَسنِمةِ اْلبخْتِ اْل مَائَِلةِ لَا يْدخُْلنَ اْلجَنة وَلَا يجِْدَن رِيحها وَإن رِيحََها لتُوجَُد مِنْ مسِيرَةِ كذا وَكذا ” .
Sahih Muslim 2128 b

7. Applying heena to nails

Narrated Aisha, UmmulMu’minin:
A woman made a sign from behind a curtain to indicate that she had a letter for the Messenger of Allah. The Prophet(ﷺ) closed his hand, saying: I do not know this is a man’s or a woman’s hand. She said: No, a woman. He said: If you were a woman, you would make a difference to your nails, meaning with henna.

عَنْ عَائِشََة، – رضى الله عنها – قَاَلتْ أَوَْمتِ اْمرَأٌَة مِنْ وَراِء سِترٍ بِيدَها كِتابٌ إَِلى رَسُولِ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فقبضَ النبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَدُه فقاَل ” ما أَْدرِي أيُد رَجُلٍ أمْ يُد اْمرَأةٍ ” . قَاَلتْ بلِ اْمرَأٌَة .
قَاَل ” لوْ كنتِ اْمرَأة لغَيرْتِ أَظفارَكِ ” . يعْنِي بِاْلحناِء .

8. Wearing gold and silk

Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said, “Wearing of silk and gold has been made unlawful for males and lawful for the females of my Ummah.”
[At-Tirmidhi].

وعن أبى موسى الأشعرى رضى الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: “حرم لباس الحرير والذهب على ذكور أمتي ،وأحل لإناثهم”

9. Copying men

Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:
The Prophet(ﷺ)cursed women who imitate men and men who imitate women.
عَنِ اْبنِ عَباسٍ، عَنِ النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أََّنه لعَنَ اْلمُتشَبَِ هاتِ مِنَ النِسَاِء بِالرِ جالِ وَاْلم تَشَبهِينَ مِنَ الرِ جَالِ بِالنِسَاِء
Sahih (Al-Albani) SunanAbiDawud 4097

10. Clothing and covering

Narrated Aisha, UmmulMu’minin:
Asma, daughter of AbuBakr, entered upon the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) wearing thin clothes. The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) turned his attention from her. He said: O Asma’, when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this, and he pointed to his face and hands.

عَنْ عَائِشََة، رضى الله عنها أن أسمَاَء بِنْتَ أَبِي بكرٍ، دخََلتْ عََلى رَسُولِ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَعليَْها ثِيابٌ رِقَاقٌ فأعْرَضَ عَنها رَسُوُل اَّلِلّه صلى الله عليه وسلم وَقَاَل ” يا أسْمَاُء إَِّن اْلمَرْأة إِذَا بَلغَتِ اْلمَحِيضَ لمْ تصُْلحْ أَْن يرَى مِنها إِلَّا هذا وََهذا ” . وَأشَارَ إَِلى وَجْهِهِ
وَكَفيهِ

11. Dragging of hem (the edge of a piece of cloth, such as the bottom edge of a skirt or dress, that is folded over and sewn)

It was narrated that Umm Salamah said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked how much a woman should let her hem drag. He said: ‘A hand span.’ She said: ‘But then it will uncover her (feet).’ He said: ‘A forearm’s length, and no more than that.'”

Sunan an-Nasa’i 5339

عَنْ أمِ سََلمََة، قاَلتْ سُئِلَ رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَمْ تجُرُّ اْلمَرْأة مِنْ ذَْيلَِها قاَل شِبْرًا ” . قَاَلتْ إذًا ينْكشِفَ عَنها . قاَل ” ذرَاعٌ لَا تزِيُد عليَْها ”

12. A dragging hem is purified by what comes after it Abdur-Rahman bin Awf’s Umm Walad said, :

“I said to Umm Salamah: ‘Indeed I am a woman with lengthy hems, and I walk in places of filth.’ So she said: ‘Allah’s Messenger said: “It is purified by what comes after it.”

عَنْ أمِ وََلٍد، لعَبد الرَّحْمَنِ بنِ عوْفٍ قاَلتْ قُْلتُ لأمِ سََلمََة إِ نِي اْمرَأة أطِيلُ ذَْيلِي وَأَْمشِي في اْلمكانِ اْلقذرِ فقاَلتْ قاَل رَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم
””يطهِرُُه ما بعَْده :

13. Regarding perfume

Narrated Abu Musa:
that the Prophet(ﷺ) said: “Every eye commits adultery, and when the woman uses perfume and she passes by a gathering, then she is like this and that.'” Meaning an adulteress.

عَنْ أبِي موسَى، عَنِ النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَاَل ” كُلُّ عَينٍ زَانِية وَاْلمَرْأة إِذَا استَعْطَرَتْ فمَرَّتْ بِاْلمجْلِسِ فَهيَ كذا وَكذا يعْنِي زَانِية ” .

Indeed, the path of knowledge is very very long. It goes on for eternity and is an ocean of its own. Nonetheless, that does not mean that we shouldn’t strive to acquire knowledge and information that will perfect our worship, bring us closer to Allah and guide us to be better human beings.

Abud-Darda (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “He who follows a path in quest of knowledge, Allah will make the path of Jannah easy to him. The angels lower their wings over the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with what he does. The inhabitants of the heavens and the earth and even the fish in the depth of the oceans seek forgiveness for him. The superiority of the learned man over the devout worshipper is like that of the full moon to the rest of the stars (i.e., in brightness). The learned are the heirs of the Prophets who bequeath neither dinar nor dirham but only that of knowledge; and he who acquires it, has in fact acquired an abundant portion.” [Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi].

It is by this that I bring forth to you ‘The 100 Hadiths on women’ that consist of some, NOT ALL, important basic hadith concerning women. This does not mean that only women should read this because it also involves other people around her like her husband, her mahrams and the men she may deal with in daily life.

Kindly do make time to educate yourself with these short, clear and precise narrations that will definitely be beneficial for you and those around you. Share it and make dua for the compiler as well.

Ibn Mas’ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I heard the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) saying, “May Allah freshen the affairs of a person who hears something from us and communicates it to others exactly as he has heard it (i.e., both the meaning and the words), for it may be that the recipient of knowledge understands it better than the one who has heard it.”
[At-Tirmidhi Book 13, Hadith 14]

May Allah Subhanahu Wataala accept it from us and count it among our hasanat together with whoever shares it. May He purify our intentions in every good deed we do and may He make us among those closest yo the prophet peace be upom him in the highest ranks of Jannah. Ameen.

A. PURIFICATION كتاب الطهارة

1. The going out of women for answering the call of nature

Narrated `Aisha:The Prophet(ﷺ) said to his wives, “You are allowed to go out to answer the call of nature. ”

“.عَنْ عَائِشََة، عَنِ النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قاَل ” قَْد أُِذَن أن تخْرُجْنَ فِي حَاجَتِكنَّ”

2. Women and wet dreams

Narrated Aisha, UmmulMu’minin:
The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked about a person who found moisture (on his body or clothes) but did not remember the sexual dream. He replied: He should take a bath. He was asked about a person who remembered that he had a sexual dream but did not find moisture. He replied: Bath is not necessary for him. Umm Salamah then asked: Is washing necessary for a woman if she sees that (in her dream)? He replied: Yes. Woman are counterpart of men.

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَجِدُ الْبَلَلَ وَلاَ يَذْكُرُ احْتِلاَمًا قَالَ ‏”‏ يَغْتَسِلُ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ وَعَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَرَى أَنَّهُ قَدِ احْتَلَمَ وَلاَ يَجِدُ الْبَلَلَ قَالَ ‏”‏ لاَ غُسْلَ عَلَيْهِ ‏”‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ الْمَرْأَةُ تَرَى ذَلِكَ أَعَلَيْهَا غُسْلٌ قَالَ ‏”‏ نَعَمْ إِنَّمَا النِّسَاءُ شَقَائِقُ الرِّجَالِ ‏”‏ ‏‏

3. Women seeking religious knowledge

A’isha reported: Asma (daughter of Shakal) asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about washing after menstruation. He said: Everyone amongst you should use water (mixed with the leaves of) the lote-tree and cleanse herself well, and then pour water on her head and rub it vigorously till it reaches the roots of the hair. Then she should pour water on it. Afterwards she should take a piece of cotton smeared with musk and cleanse herself with it. Asma’ said: How should she cleanse herself with the help of that? Upon this he (the Messenger of Allah) observed: Praise be to Allah, she should cleanse herself. ‘A’isha said in a subdued tone that she should apply it to the trace of blood. She (Asma) then further asked about bathing after sexual intercourse. He (the Holy Prophet) said: She should take water and cleanse herself well or complete the ablution and then (pour water) on her head and rub it till it reaches the roots of the hair (of her) head and then pour water on her. ‘A’isha said: How good are the women of Ansar (helpers) that their shyness does not prevent them from learning religion.

عَنْ عَائِشََة، أن أسْمَاَء، سَألتِ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ غُسْلِ اْلمَحيِض فقاَل ” تأْخذ إِحداكُنَّ ماَءها وَسِْدرََتَها فتطََّهرُ فتحْسِنُ الطُُّهورَ ثمَّ تصبُّ على رَأْسَِها فَتَْدُلكه دْل كا شَِديًدا حَتى تبلغَ شئُوَن رَأْسَِها ثمَّ تصُبُّ عََليها اْلمَاَء . ثمَّ تأخُُذ فِرْصًَة ممَسكًَة فَتَطهرُ بَِها ” . فقاَلتْ أسْمَاُء وَكيفَ تطََّهرُ بَِها فقَاَل ” سبْحَاَن اَّلِلّ تطََّهرِينَ بَِها ” . فقاَلتْ عَائِشَُة كأََّنَها تخفِي ذلكَ تتَبعِينَ أثرَ الَّدمِ . وَسَأََلته عَنْ غسلِ اْلجنَاَبةِ فَقَاَل ” تأخُُذ ماًء فتطََّهرُ فتحْسِنُ الطُُّهورَ – أَوْ تبْلِغُ الطُُّهورَ – ثمَّ تصُبُّ عََلى رَأسَِها فَتَْدُلكُُه حتَّى تبلغَ شُ ئُوَن رَأسَِها ثمَّ تفِيضُ عََليها اْلمَاَء ” . فقَاَلتْ عَائِشَُة نِعْمَ النِ سَاُء نِسَاُء الَأْنصَارِ لمْ يكُنْ يمْنعُُهنَّ اْلحَياُء أن يتفَقهنَ فِي الِدينِ .

4. Cleaning menses on clothes

Narrated Asma’: A woman came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, “If anyone of us gets menses in her clothes then what should she do?” He replied, “She should (take hold of the soiled place), rub it and put it in the water and rub it in order to remove the traces of blood and then pour water over it. Then she can pray in it.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 227

عَنْ أسْمَاَء، قاَلتْ جَاَءتِ اْمرَأٌَة النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فقاَلتْ أرَأيتَ إِحَْداَنا تحِيضُ فِي الثَّوْبِ كَيْفَ تصْنعُ قاَل تحُته، ثمَّ تقرُصُُه بِاْلمَاِء وََتنْضحُُه وتصَلِي فِيه

5. Permitted acts during menstruation

Narrated `Urwa: A person asked me, “Can a woman in menses serve me? And can a Junub woman come close to me?” I replied, “All this is easy for me. All of them can serve me, and there is no harm for any other person to do the same. `Aisha told me that she used to comb the hair of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) while she was in her menses, and he was in I`tikaf (in the mosque). He would bring his head near her in her room and she would comb his hair, while she used to be in her menses.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 296

عَنْ عُرْوََة، أنُه سُئِلَ أتخُْدُمنِي اْلحائِضُ أوْ تْدُنو مِن ي اْلمَرْأة وَْهىَ جُنبٌ فقاَل عُرْوَُة كُلُّ ذَِلكَ علىَّ هيِ نٌ، وَكُلُّ ذَِلكَ تخُْدُمنِي، وََليسَ عََلى أحٍَد فِي ذَِلكَ بأسٌ، أَخْبرَْتنِي عَائِشَُة أنَها كاَن تْ ترَج لُ ـ تعْنِي ـ رَأْسَ رَسولِ اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ، وَرَسُوُل اَّلِلّ صلى الله عليه وسلم حينئٍِذ مجَاوِرٌ فِي اْلمَسْجد، يْدنِي لَها رَأْسَُه وَْهىَ فِي حُجْرَتَِها، فترَجُ له وَْهىَ حَائِضٌ.

6. Hand dye while on menses

It was narrated from Mu’adh that: A woman asked ‘Aishah: “Can a woman who is menstruating, dye her hands?” She said: “We were with the Prophet and we used to dye our hands, and he did not tell us not to do that.”

عَنْ معَاذََة، . أن اْمرَأة، سَألتْ عائِشة قاَلتْ تخْتضِبُ اْلحَائِضُ فقاَلتْ قد كنا عِند النَّبِيِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وََنحْنُ نخْتضِبُ فلمْ يكنْ ينَْهاَنا  عنُْه

7. Taking ghusl bath with closely plaited hair

Umm Salama reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who has closely plaited hair on my head; should I undo it for taking a bath, because of sexual intercourse? He (the Holy Prophet) said: No, it is enough for you to throw three handfuls of water on your head and then pour water over yourself, and you shall be purified.
Sahih Muslim 330 a

أمِ سََلمََة، قاَلتْ قلتُ يا رَسُوَل اَّلِلّ إِ نِي اْمرَأٌَة أَشُُّد ضَفرَ رَأسِي فأنقضُُه لغُسْلِ اْلجَناَبةِ قَاَل لَا إَِّنما يكفِيكِ أَْن تحْثِي عََلى رَأسِكِ ثلَاثَ حَثياتٍ ثمَّ تفِيضِينَ عََليكِاْلمَاَء فتطُْهرِينَ

8. Regarding flowing blood after menstruation

A’isha reported: Fatimah b. Abu Hubaish came to the Apostle (ﷺ) and said: I am a woman whose blood keeps flowing (even after the menstruation period). I am never purified; should I, therefore, abandon prayer? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Not at all, for that is only a vein, and is not a menstruation, so when menstruation comes, abandon prayer, and when it ends wash the blood from yourself and then pray.
Sahih Muslim 333 a

عَنْ عَائِشََة، قاَلتْ جَاَءتْ فاطِمَُة بِنْتُ أبِي حبَيْشٍ إلى النبِيِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فقاَلتْ يا رَسوَل اَّلِلّ إ نِي اْمرَأة أسْتحَاضُ فلَا أطُْهرُ أفأدعُ الصلَاَة فقاَل : لَا إَِّنمَا ذَِلكِ عِرْقٌ وََليسَ
بِاْلحَيضَةِ فإذَا أقْبََلتِ اْلحَيضَُة فََدعِي الصَّلَاَة وَإِذَا أدَبرَتْ فاغْسِلِي عنْكِ الَّدمَ وَصَلِي

I find the words in the Qur’an to be so mesmerizing, so profound they can cause you a shiver from its depth. Picking my favourite ayahs has been really hard because I find the entire book to be very intense. Every verse comes with a yet better heart felt message than the previous. Yet, here is what I came up with at the end.

1.

The ayah focuses on the people Allah loves who are the doers of good.
First, we learn that there are two kinds of charity; one that you give when you have surplus and another when you give while you barely have anything yourself. This shows the importance of charity for every mankind but without putting one in distress (taklif) for it. For the rich, so that they can get rid of the greed within themselves and for the less rich, to be more selfless towards other human beings.

Abu Huraira reported: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “O Messenger of Allah, which charity has the greatest reward?” The Prophet said, “That you give charity while you are healthy, feeling greedy, fearing poverty, and hoping to be rich. Do not delay giving until you are on your deathbed, then say give to such a person. It already belongs to that person.” (Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1353)

In another hadith, the prophet peace be upon him says,”The best of all charity is when the one with little strives to give; start with those you are responsible for.” [Hakim, Sahih] This also stresses the importance of looking after your family first before extending your charity to other people. As the saying goes, ‘charity begins at home’, and truly, what is the point of helping the entire world while your own people sleep hungry and struggle alone?

Then the ayah goes on to mention that Allah loves those who restrain their anger, forgive and are merciful to other human beings. If only we applied this verse into our daily lives…half of our conflicts would be non-existent. If only we were more understanding of the human nature and merciful towards one another. There is a story concerning this that I really love.

“One day Ja’far As-Sadiq wanted to perform ablution, he asked his slave to pour water on his hands from a jug. As the slave began to pour the water, some of it spleashed onto Ja’far’s garment, which resulted in Ja’far giving his slave a reproachful look. Fearing punishment, the servant said:

وَالۡكٰظِمِيۡنَ الۡغَيۡظَ

‘Those Who repress their anger’

Ja’far said reassuringly, ‘I have repressed my anger.’

وَالۡعَافِيۡنَ عَنِ النَّاسِ​ؕ

‘And those who pardon men’, said the slave.

‘I have indeed pardoned you,’ said Ja’far.

وَاللّٰهُ يُحِبُّ الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ​ۚ‏

‘Verily Allah loves the good doers,’ said the slave expectantly.

‘Go. You are free from the countenance of Allah and you may take from my wealth 1000 dinars.’

May Allah make us among the good doers. Ameen.

Life is always going to be a bumpy ride. There will always be moments whereby we struggle to understand what is happening or what we should do or just feeling like our world is coming to an end. However pious one is, we all need reassurance. We all need someone, something to remind us that such is life, that things will eventually get better. Because this life will never be thunder and storms all the time. Sometimes there is a peaceful breeze and a beautiful sun. There is always a balance. No one’s life is entirely darkness nor is there someone experiencing 24/7 unlimited access to happiness. In these moments, Allah (S.W.) tells the believers that remembering Him is what brings tranquility to the soul. It is in remembering him that we are reassured.

Every other day, we lose something in our lives. Could be something we hold dear; a person, an opportunity, a job, our loved ones…but here Allah (S.W) promises us something. That so long as there’s a seed of goodness with you, however small, He will grant you something better than what He has taken from you. He doesn’t say, ‘If Allah knows of a huge amount of goodness in you…’ He says ‘ANY GOOD’. That shows how merciful Allah is. He will be there for you despite your wrongdoings, your negligence of the deen, despite your flaws…He will give you something you never imagined having. So grieve not dear heart, for your Lord is a great Lord.

 

4.

Have you ever sat by yourself and reflected on your life and thought, ‘I don’t deserve jannah?’ The sins seems to be too many. The past seems so dark, full of mistakes and regrets. You keep slipping back to sins over and over and over again. You repent over and over and over and Allah forgives you. But then you just keep falling again and again. That is the human nature. We will never be infallible. We all have things we are not proud of. We all have mistakes we wish we could undo. But here Allah (S.W) is reminding us that He is THEE MOST MERCIFUL and that however many your sins are, He is ready to forgive you if you repent. So never despair. Never think that your sins are too big for His mercy. You have a chance. I have a chance. We all have a chance to start afresh and change our lives for the better.

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “All of the children of Adam are sinners, and the best sinners are those who repent.” (Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2499)

5.

The entire Surat Luqman is definitely one of the best chapters in the Qur’an (Especially when recited with a qar’i like Islam Sobhi :p ). But more so, is the advice of Luqman to his son which is like a life skills session of its own.

يَٰبُنَىَّ أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأْمُرْ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَٱنْهَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَصَابَكَ ۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ (١٧)
O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] determination.

وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ (١٨)
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.

‘And be patient over what befalls you…’ I find this specific part to be have so much depth in it. The ayahs are quite straightforward and Luqman aleyhi ssalam’s wisdom is worth adhering to.

There are so many profound, thought-provoking ayahs within the Qur’an. Add that with a heart-warming recitation of Islam Al Sobhi or Mansur Al Salimi and your heart just melts away. It could bring you to tears when you actually ponder the verses and reflect on them. I will share with you some of my favourite ayahs and I hope they bring meaning to your life just like they do for me.

1.

I love this ayah a lot and I refer to it all the time. Because it answers all the questions we have no answers to. All the uncertainties, all the doubts, the questions of ‘why?’ Why did I fail despite working so hard? Why do good people go through the worst? Why did I go through such an ugly divorce despite being a good wife? Why don’t I have children? Why does God allow bad things to happen? Why is this happening to me? Why me? WHY WHY WHY…This is the answer right here.  ‘Do the people think they will be left to say they believe and not be tested?’  I leave this here as food for thought because we could write an entire book about this one ayah.

2.

“Jugular vein, is any of several veins of the neck that drain blood from the brain, face, and neck, returning it to the heart via the superior vena cava. If you block the jugular veins, the pressure in the brain goes up. The jugular vein system is essential and is found fairly deep in the body.”

Now Allah (S.W) makes us aware that He is THAT close to us and MORE. He knows what is going on within us; when our hearts are filled with envy, when we have lowly desires, when we are breaking, when we are hurting, our true intentions; ALLAH KNOWS. Because He created us, how can He not know? This should make us both fear Him and trust Him. Fear Him because He is aware of all that goes on within us; the good, the bad and the ugly, even when we conceal it from the entire world. Trust Him because He knows when we are in pain, when we want His help, when we are striving to be better human beings. HE KNOWS of all that is within you. He is listening, He is watching, He is with you always. ALLAH KNOWS…

Think for a moment of your happiest day. The day you felt elated the most. Think of that day then now reflect on this day. Allah (S.W.) tells you that THIS LIFE is nothing but diversion and play. That happiness, that joy, that ecstatic feeling is NOTHING compared to what Allah (S.W.) has in store for us in Jannah. Picture how much happier you can actually be in the next life if you do make it.

Now think of your saddest moment in life. The day your soul crumbled. The worst time of your existence. Think of that then reflect on this ayah. Allah (S.W) is reminding you that this life is NOTHING. That this material life is useless and pointless. He is telling you that what you see in this life, all that you yearn for, all that you ache for, is temporary and cheap. That this dunya is a cheap game. Don’t you want more? Don’t you want what’s real? What’s eternal? Jannah. Aim for that instead.

4.

“أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَن تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَمَا نَزَلَ مِنَ الْحَقِّ وَلاَ يَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِن قَبْلُ فَطَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْأَمَدُ فَقَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ”

Allah (S.W.) is asking you dear believer, has the time not come for YOU to submit to Allah? Has the time not come? What are we waiting for? The sun rising from the west? Malakul maut standing in front of us? Till when will we delay giving in to what truly brought us to this earth? Till when it is too late? Till our hearts become hard and the word of Allah does not affect us anymore? It is high time. It is high time.

5.

I grew up hearing this ayah all the time from my mother and father (alhamdulilah for my parents). They literally made me SEE this with my own eyes. Whenever my parents were stuck at any matter, they would always, always refer this ayah to us. It always awed me, how they believed that much yet Allah never failed to respond to them. One door would close, another would open. Another would open and the previous would close. Whenever my mother needed anything and she had absolutely no way out, she would still say it confidently, ‘Allah will bring a way’ or mostly, ‘لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ’ (Do not despair of the mercy of Allah) and I swear, Allah would always bring a way even if it was dead in the night. This wasn’t just with provision and money, but any kind of difficulty we faced. And through my parents, I learnt to trust that Allah will never forsake me so long as I have faith in Him.

There was a time I was at the matatu stage and I was feeling unwell. I just had two hundred shillings with me and there was no way I could go to the hospital with 200 bob. Also, I was supposed to be somewhere in town and that’s the same I needed for the fare. Nonetheless, I said I will tawakkal. I went to a nearby hospital in which the doctor has treated our family through out the years. So I walk in to the reception and she asks whether I had a card. The card was more than 4 months old and the hospital had a system where you had to renew the card every 3 months. So when I gave her the card, she was awed by how neat and new the card still looked and said, ‘Because you kept this very well, I won’t ask you to renew one now. You can go in and see the doctor.’ I go in and talk to the doctor for a while about my condition. At the end, I ask him how much it would cost. Remember, with me I just have two hundred shillings. Which doctor takes 200 shillings anymore?! The doctor looks at me and says, ‘You don’t have to pay anything. Take this prescription and buy the meds’. And that was it. I still got to go to both the hospital and my destination in town. Tell me, how is that even possible without Allah’s mercy? Coincidence? I bet not.

This doesn’t mean I am pious. Far from it. Nor does it mean I feel better than others, walyadhu billah. But I just wanted to show this example how Allah actually and truly gives you a way out when you have faith in Him.

There is a lady who lacked anything in her house some years back. It was Ramadhan like it is now and she met her neighbour on the way. As we know our culture here in Mombasa, we’d ask, ‘Leo wapika nini futari?’ (what will you cook today for iftaar?’ The lady laughed and said, ‘Iftaar? I don’t even have the tiniest bit of salt let alone prepare any meal.’ Her neighbour immediately offered some little cash, but this lady knew that her neighbour was struggling just as she is. So she respectfully declined, thanked her and said, ‘God will bring a way’. She headed back home and upon opening the door, the entire seating room was filled with food items. The lady was shocked and asked her then jobless husband, ‘where did all this come from?’ The lady was a teacher and several parents of her students had brought her the food. The lady was so moved, she had to sit down to get a hold of herself. Tears were rolling down her eyes, awed by how good our Lord is.

Sadly, so many of us, Allah favours us in this same way, yet we never even recognize it. We become so blinded with this material life and forget who actually has been above it all; helping us, paving ways for us, removing blocks on the path. We assume we have what we do because we worked for it or because we deserve it. However, if you look keenly, you will know for sure, it is ONLY by ALLAH. Ask anyone who’s had it rough in life and eventually arose, they’ll tell you, ‘Ni Mungu tu…’

May Allah accept our good deeds, forgive us, guide us, relieve our worries and doubts, protect us from Nar and grant us His mercy to see Him on the day of Judgement. I think one of the scariest things in this life is that our daily actions and the things we dedicate our time to, do dictate to a certain extent how our end will be. This is not even science, it is logic. Have you ever seen how when someone dies we almost never miss to check their social media accounts and exclaim at their last posts? Sometimes we talk of how it is a strange coincidence that the last thing they posted was about death or pain or doing good deeds. But these things are never coincidences. Most of the times, if you check even the past posts of the same person you’d see similar posts. It is only that we mostly take notice of what someone said after they are gone for good (sadly).

So here comes the logic: If you love posting about food or fashion or even Islamic reminders there’s a high probability the last post before your death will be the same. If you spend 80% of your time reciting qur’an, then there’s quite a high probability that you will die reading the book of Allah and if you spend most of your time with earphones on and loud music popping, there’s also that probability you’d die in that same way. It is never a guarantee but we also can’t entirely dismiss this. One would think, what’s the big deal if I died with my earphones on? The big deal is that you’ll be resurrected in front of your Lord, not in sujood, or on a trip to do charity but in the sinning process. With what face do you stand before your God?Of course our Lord is the most Merciful and despite all our frequent sins, He is always ready to forgive us. But are we ready to accept our mistakes and repent sincerely? For how long will we be in denial?

We are living in this ridiculous century whereby everyone is ‘holier than thou’ or otherwise in the ‘don’t judge me’ phase. We always tend to forget that we are human beings and it is natural for us to sin and make mistakes but what then do we do? We deny. We deny that our lifestyles are filthy and our eyes are blinded by the materialistic world. We deny that we need to take a step back and think hard about our words and actions. We deny that we are being irresponsible and immature to think that God will JUST somehow forgive us even when we don’t try to change and sincerely repent.

I’ve seen several videos that show sudden deaths; someone died in sujood, another died in Makkah while doing hajj, another died while reciting qur’an in front of a large crowd…and yet still I’ve seen clips of people who’ve died while dancing, others who died on stage while singing and even while stealing. Yes, you read it right. A thief who died in the process of stealing. How scary is that? These people probably thought they’ll have an entire lifetime ahead of them; to enjoy life, to be happy and probably get close to God at some point? Well, tomorrow is not promised to anyone. How do we know that this bad habit we are so attached to will actually be the end of us?!

One of the scary true stories I heard is of a young lady who loved listening to music and dancing a lot. She was so passionate about it that she would indulge in the dancing whether it was Ramadhan or Jumuah or any other day, it never really mattered to her. So one day, this young lady was invited to a wedding and she was happily dancing around when someone suggested to her, ‘Why don’t you go dance at the stage?’ The young lady agreed and she went on to the stage. She folded one arm and kept her hand on the waist. She raised her other hand over her head and stood on her toes on one foot, ready to take a swirl. Just as she was taking the turn, she collapsed. Her family rushed her into the next room, splashed some water on her face but in vain. The girl was gone. Now during the ghusl time, her body remained fixated in that same last posture she was in just before her death; hand akimbo, another hand above her head and with one foot as if she were standing on her toes. The lady who was doing ghusl tried everything to force her body straight but she didn’t succeed. She then decided to call a sheikh to ask for help. The sheikh suggested that she washes her with warm water over her muscles maybe then her body would relax and straighten up. The lady said that she had even tried immersing the entire body in warm water but still, it wouldn’t budge. With nothing else possible, the young lady was buried in that same posture.

The lady who did the ghusl asked the mother about her daughter and she said of how obsessed she was with music and dancing. She would always send her younger brother to go buy her the latest releases of music. The strange thing was that after she had collapsed, her body was straight. It was only when she was taken for ghusl that her body posture turned like that during the dance. Subhanallah. And that was her end…and unfortunately, this is how she will be resurrected.

The truth is, we are not dumb or stupid. Not at all. We know of our sins and we know what habits we need to discard. But do we really even try to take a step and think of our sins or do we attack those who try to correct us? When people tell us about Miraa or smoking or hijab or anything else, do we stop for a moment and think, ‘What if they are right? What if my choices will really lead to my horrible end?!

The good news is that our Lord is indeed the Most Forgiving Most Merciful. Each one of us is struggling with some bad habits or sins that we frequently commit. What we do about them is what matters. If we sincerely put the intention to change and actually TRY to become better Muslims, then Allah will definitely help us and easen for us the path and judge us according to how we strive to get closer to Him.

Indeed life is short and we can never know in which way we will die. Best thing is to pray for a beautiful ending and a beautiful meeting with our Lord when the time comes. Let us keep praying for ourselves and even for our fellow Muslims that we may follow the right path. May Allah guide us and grant us husnul khatima. Ameen.

DEATH OF THE PROPHET (S.A.W)


Symptoms of Farewell

Months before the prophet peace be upon him passed away, he showed certain symptoms signalling his upcoming death. Allah (S.W) revealed this ayah during the farewell pilgrimage ‘hijjatul wad’a’: “This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [Al-Qur’an 5:3] which was the signal of the completion of deen and faith and that the prophet’s duty and role on this earth was only a matter of days before it ended too. Some of the symptoms he showed were:

• In Ramadan in the tenth year of Al-Hijra he secluded himself for twenty days for I’tikaf in contrast to the usual last ten days he did in the previous years.

• The angel Jibril reviewed the Qur’ân twice with him instead of once like he would do in previous years.

• His words in the Farewell Pilgrimage (i.e. Al-Wida‘):”I do not know whether I will ever meet you at this place once again after this current year.”

• The revelation of An-Nasr Chapter amid At-Tashreeq Days. So when it was sent down on him, he realized that it was the parting time and that Surah was an announcement of his approaching death.

• On the early days of Safar in the eleventh year of Al-Hijra, the Prophet [pbuh] went out to Uhud and observed a farewell prayer to the martyrs. It looked like saying goodbye to both the dead and the living alike. He then ascended the pulpit and addressed the people saying: “I am to precede you and I have been made witness upon you. By Allâh, you will meet me at the ‘Fountain’ very soon. I have been given the keys of worldly treasures. By Allâh, I do not fear for you that you will turn polytheists after me. But I do fear that acquisition of worldly riches should entice you to strike one another’s neck.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 2/585]

• One day, at midnight he went to Al-Baqee‘ cemetry, and implored Allâh to forgive the martyrs of Islam. He said: “Peace be upon you tomb-dwellers! May that morning that dawns upon you be more relieving than that which dawn upon the living. Afflictions are approaching them like cloudy lumps of a dark night — the last of which follows the first. The last one is bearing more evil than the first.” He comforted them saying: “We will follow you.”
Beginning of ailment

On Monday the twenty-ninth of Safar in the eleventh year of Al-Hijra, he participated in funeral rites in Al-Baqee‘. On the way back he had a headache, his temperature rose so high that the heat effect could be felt over his headband. He led the Muslims in prayer for eleven days though he was sick. The total number of his sick days were either thirteen or fourteen.

When his sickness grew severe he asked his wives: “Where shall I stay tomorrow?” “Where shall I stay?” They understood what he wanted. So they allowed him to stay wherever he wished. He moved to ‘Aishah’s room and it was there that he spent the last week of his life. During that period, ‘Aishah used to recite Al-Mu‘awwidhat (Chapters 113 and 114 of the Qur’ân) and other supplications which he had already taught her.

Five days before his death, he made a speech to his people and said amongst other things “The curse of Allâh falls upon the Jews and Christians for they have made their Prophets’ tombs places of worship.” Then he said: “Do not make my tomb a worshipped idol.” He also said:

“Allâh, the Great, has given a slave of His the opportunity to make a choice between whatever he desires of Allâh’s provisions in this world, and what He keeps for him in the world, but he has opted for the latter.” Abu Sa‘îd Al-Khudri said: “Upon hearing that, Abu Bakr cried and said: ‘We sacrifice our fathers and mothers for your sake.’ We wondered why Abu Bakr said such a thing. People said: ‘Look at that old man! The Messenger of Allâh [pbuh] says about a slave of Allâh who was granted the right between the best fortunes of this world and the bounty of Allâh in the Hereafter, but he says: We sacrifice our fathers and mothers for your sake!’ It was later on that we realized what he had aimed at. The Messenger of Allâh [pbuh] was the slave informed to choose. We also acknowledged that Abu Bakr was the most learned among us.” [Mishkat Al-Masabih 2/546]

On the evening of the fourth day before his death, he grew so sick that he could not overcome the strain of disease or go out to enter the Mosque. Whenever he wanted to stand up to go to the masjid, he would faint, over and over again. Eventually he sent that Abu Bakr should lead the prayers. Aishah (peace be upon her) tried to convince the prophet to exempt her father Abubakr from leading the prayers due to his high level of gentleness but he refused and said: “You (women) are like the women who tried to entice Joseph (Yusuf) into immorality. Convey my request to Abu Bakr to lead the prayer.”

The Last Day Alive

In a narration by Anas bin Malik, he said: “While the Muslims were performing the dawn prayer on Monday — led by Abu Bakr, they were surprised to see the Messenger of Allâh [pbuh] raising the curtain of ‘Aishah’s room. He looked at them while they were praying aligned properly and smiled cheerfully. Seeing him, Abu Bakr withdrew to join the lines and give way to him to lead the prayer. For he thought that the Prophet [pbuh] wanted to go out and pray.” Anas said: “The Muslims, who were praying, were so delighted that they were almost too enraptured at their prayers. The Messenger of Allâh [pbuh] made them a gesture to continue their prayer, went into the room and drew down the curtain.”

This was the last prayer witnessed by the prophet peace be upon him. During the day, Muhammad (S.A.W) called for his daughter Fatima. He then whispered something to her in secret and she wept. Then he whispered something else and she smiled. After the prophet’s death Aishah asked her about the strange incident and Fatima replied, “The first time he disclosed to me that he would not recover from his illness and I wept. Then he told me that I would be the first of his family to join him, so I laughed.” He gave Fatimah glad tidings that she would become the lady of all women of the world.

Fatimah witnessed the great pain that afflicted her father. So she said: “What great pain my father is in!”. To these words, the Prophet [pbuh] remarked: “He will not suffer any more when today is over.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 2/641]

The prophet then requested for his grandchildren Al Hasan and Al Husain. He kissed them and recommended that they be looked after. He asked to see his wives. They were brought to him. He preached to them and told them to remember Allâh.

Pain grew so much severe that the trace of poison he had at Khaibar came to light. It was so sore that he said to ‘Aishah: “I still feel the painful effect of that food I tasted at Khaibar. I feel as if death is approaching.” He ordered the people to perform the prayers and be attentive to slaves. He repeated it several times.
His last moments

Aishah (peace be upon her) was blessed to have had the last moments of the prophet with him leaning on her.
She is known to have said: “One of Allâh’s bounties upon me is that the Messenger of Allâh [pbuh] died in my house, while I am still alive. He died between my chest and neck while he was leaning against me. Allâh has mixed his saliva with mine at his death. For ‘Abdur Rahman — the son of Abu Bakr — came in with a Siwak (i.e. the root of a desert plant used for brushing teeth) in his hand, while I was leaning the Messenger of Allâh [pbuh] against me. I noticed that he was looking at the Siwak, so I asked him — for I knew that he wanted it — “Would you like me to take it for you?” He nodded in agreement. I took it and gave it to him. As it was too hard for him, I asked him “Shall I soften it for you?” He nodded in agreement. So I softened it with my saliva and he passed it (on his teeth). In another version it is said: “So he brushed (Istanna) his teeth as nice as he could.” There was a water container (Rakwa) available at his hand with some water in. He put his hand in it and wiped his face with it and said: “There is no god but Allâh. Death is full of agonies.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 2/640]

As soon as he had finished his Siwak brushing, he raised his hand or his finger up, looked upwards to the ceiling and moved his lips. So ‘Aishah listened to him. She heard him say: “With those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace with the Prophets and the Truthful ones (As-Siddeeqeen), the martyrs and the good doers. O Allâh, forgive me and have mercy upon me and join me to the Companionship on high.” Then at intervals he uttered these words: “The most exalted Companionship on high. To Allâh we turn and to Him we turn back for help and last abode.”
This event took place at high morning time on Monday, the twelfth of Rabi‘ Al-Awwal, in the eleventh year of Al-Hijrah. He was sixty-three years and four days old when he died.”

His Burial

There was a lot of confusion and disruption after the prophet’s death. The sahabas were at unrest and were unsure who deserved to take lead after the prophet. With all that arguments and dialogues that were happening between the Ansar and Muhajirun, time went by fast while the prophet’s body was still lying on his bed covered with an inked-garment. He was locked in the room.

Finally they acknowledged Abu Bakr (peace be upon him) as a caliph due to his special status in the prophet’s eyes as well as the fact that the prophet let Abu Bakr lead the prayers during his ailment period (among other reasons). They spent the whole Monday there till it was night and to the next day Tuesday.

On Tuesday, his body was washed with his clothes on. He was washed by Al-‘Abbas, ‘Ali, Al-Fadl and Qathm — the two sons of Al-‘Abbas, as well as Shaqran — the Messenger’s freed slave, Osamah bin Zaid and Aws bin Khauli. Al-‘Abbas, Al-Fadl and Qathm turned his body round, whereas Osamah and Shaqran poured out water. ‘Ali washed him and Aws leant him against his chest. They shrouded him in three white Sahooli cotton cloth which had neither a headcloth nor a casing and inserted him in. A sort of disagreement arose with regard to a burial place.

Abu Bakr said: “I heard the Messenger of Allâh [pbuh] say: ‘A dead Prophet is buried where he dies.’ So Abu Talhah lifted the bed on which he died, dug underneath and cut the ground to make the tomb. People entered the room ten by ten. They prayed for the Prophet [pbuh]. The first to pray for him were people of his clan. Then the Emigrants, then the Helpers. Women prayed for him after men. The young were the last to pray. This process took Tuesday long and Wednesday night (i.e. the night which precedes Wednesday morning). ‘Aishah said: “We did not know that the Prophet [pbuh] was being buried till we heard the sound of tools digging the ground at the depth of Wednesday night.” [source: the sealed nectar. We may look in the books of history, we may look at the up-coming legends, we may look around us to find the best role model and the most amazing of mankind, but no one will ever be better than Muhammad (peace be upon him). May Allah guide us and make us amongst those who follow the footsteps of the Rasul and be a positive influence to mankind. Ameen.

PROPHET’S LOVE FOR HIS UMMAH

The way the prophet peace be upon him loved his ummah is beyond any kind of human love one may imagine. The prophet was genuinely concerned about his ummah, he prayed for us and loved us even before he met us (the generations after him). Allah (S.W.) had already forgiven him all his mistakes of the past and of the future and if he willed, he would just have enjoyed his life and focused on his close family and friends. But instead, the prophet sought Allah’s Mercy and Forgiveness for the many generations to come.

  • A’ishah narrates “Once, when I saw the Prophet in a good mood, I said to him: “O Messenger of Allah! Supplicate to Allah for me!” So, he said: “O Allah! Forgive ‘A’ishah her past sins and her future sins, the sins which she has hidden and the sins which have been made apparent.”
    So I began smiling, to the point that my head fell into the lap of the Messenger of Allah out of joy.
    Messenger of Allah said to me: “Does my supplication make you happy?” I replied: “And how can your supplication not make me happy?” He then said: “By Allah, it is the supplication that I make for my Ummah in every prayer.” [Narrated in Al Bazzaar, Hasan Al-Albani]
  • During one instance, the Messenger (saw) cried. The companions said, “What makes you cry, Oh Messenger of Allah?” He said, “I miss my brothers.” They said: “Are we not your brothers, Oh Messenger of Allah?” He said, “No, you are my Companions. My brothers are those who will come after me and they believe in me without seeing me.” (Ad-Darami, At-Tabaraani, Al-Hakim)
  • The prophet aleyhi ssalam said, “Allah has given one Dua to every single prophet and every single messenger that he has guaranteed that He will respond to. And every single prophet has used up this Dua for himself in this world, except for me. I have saved it and I have not used it and I will not use it in this life. I have kept it for my Ummah and I will use it for them on the day of judgement. And my Dua will be, O Allah, forgive my entire Ummah.” [Sahih Muslim 199]
  • The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “I am like a person who lit a fire and when the surrounding area became bright with light, the moths and insects began to drop in the fire. The person is now trying with all the force at his command to stop these moths and insects from dropping in the fire, but the moths and insects are rushing towards the fire rendering all his efforts ineffective. Likewise, I am trying my best to draw you back and keep you away from the fire, yet you are bent on falling into it.” [Mishkat]
  • Once the Prophet was reciting the Quran and he came across a number of verses. Of them is the famous verse where ProphetIbrahim (A) is making Dua for his people,

“So whoever follows me – then he is of me; and whoever disobeys me – indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful.” Quran [14:36]

Here Prophet Ibrahim (A) is asking Allah to forgive those who are not listening to him. Afterwards, the Prophet Muhammad   recites another verse where Prophet Isa (A) is making supplication for his people.

“If You should punish them – indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them – indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” Quran [5:118]

In both of these supplications, Prophet Ibrahim (A) and Prophet Isa (A) were asking for mercy and forgiveness for their own people. He, the Prophet Muhammad   then starts thinking about his own people and what will be their fate. He raises his hand and starts saying,

Allahumma Ummati, Allahumma Ummati – O Allah my Ummah, O Allah my Ummah.

He then begins to cry thinking about this Ummah, about us. Allah (S) at this point, told Jibreel to go to the Prophet   and ask him why he is crying (of course Allah knew why). So Jibreel came and asked the Prophet, the Prophet aleyhi ssalam replied,

“I am crying thinking for my Ummah, thinking of what will be their fate.”

So Jibreel went back and Allah said to him,

“O Jibreel, go back to Muhammad and tell him, we are going to please you for your Ummah. And we are not going to cause you any irritation.” [Sahih Muslim]

  • Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, on the day of judgement will intercede for his ummah and request for Allah’s Mercy and forgiveness for his people as narrated in the hadith by Anas ibn Malik (peace be upon him).

It was narrated that Anas ibn Maalik said: Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us: “When the Day of Resurrection comes, the people will surge with each other like waves. They will come to Adam and say, ‘Intercede for us with your Lord.’ He will say, ‘I am not fit for that. Go to Ibraaheem for he is the Close Friend of the Most Merciful.’ So they will go to Ibraaheem, but he will say, ‘I am not fit for that. Go to Moosa for he is the one to whom Allaah spoke directly.’ So they will go to Moosa but he will say, ‘I am not fit for that. Go to ‘Eesa for he is a soul created by Allaah and His Word.’ So they will go to ‘Eesa but he will say, ‘I am not fit for that. Go to Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).’ So they will come to me and I will say, I am fit for that.’ Then I will ask my Lord for permission and He will give me permission, and He will inspire me with words of praise with which I will praise Him, words that I do not know now. So I will praise Him with those words of praise and I will fall down prostrate before Him.

He will say, ‘O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.’ I will say, ‘O Lord, my ummah, my ummah!’ He will say, ‘Go and bring forth everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of a barley-grain.’ So I will go and do that. Then I will come back and praise Him with those words of praise and I will fall down prostrate before Him. He will say, ‘O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.’ I will say, ‘O Lord, my ummah, my ummah!’ He will say, ‘Go and bring forth everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of a small ant or a mustard-seed.’ So I will go and do that. Then I will come back and praise Him with those words of praise and I will fall down prostrate before Him. He will say, ‘O Muhammad, raise your head. Speak and intercession will be granted to you, ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted.’ I will say, ‘O Lord, my ummah, my ummah!’ He will say, ‘Go and bring forth from the Fire everyone in whose heart there is faith the weight of the lightest, lightest grain of mustard-seed.’ So I will go and bring them forth.”  [Bukhari]

The prophet’s (S.A.W) greatness was known both to the believers and disbelievers, the kings and slaves. They all couldn’t deny how magnificent his character was and how much he influenced all those around him. A good example of this is the incident of Heraclius and his conversation with Abu Sufyan (before he reverted to Islam).

“Late in the sixth year A.H. on his return from Hudaibiyah, the prophet peace be upon him decided to send messages to the kings beyond Arabia calling them to Islam. In order to authenticate the credentials of his messengers, a silver seal was made in which were engraved the words: ‘Muhammad the Messenger of Allah’. One of the letters was to Heraclius, Emperor of the Byzantines (King of Rome) Dihyah bin Khalifah Al Kalbi was ordered to hand over the letter to the governor of Busra, who would in turn send it to Caesar.

The letter read as follows:

“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

From Muhammad, the servant of Allah and His Messenger to Heraclius, the king of Byzantines.

Blessed are those who follow true guidance. I invite you to embrace Islam so that you may live in ecurity. If you come within the fold of Islam, Allah will give you double reward, but in case you turn your back upon it, then the burden of all the sins of your people shall fall on your shoulders.

‘Say (O Muhammad peace be upon him): ‘O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah.’ Then, if they turn away, say: ‘Bear witness that we are Muslims.’ [Qur’an: 3:64]

Al Bukhari, on the authority of Ibn Abbas peace be upon him narrated that Heraclius sent for Abu Sufyan and his companions, who happened to be trading in Ash-sham (Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan) he came to Iliya Bailtul Maqdis. That was during the truce that had been concluded between  the polytheists of Quraish and Allah’s Messenger peace be upon him. Heraclius, seated among his chiefs of staff, asked, ‘Who amongst you is the nearest relative to the man who claims to be a prophet?’

Abu Sufyan said ‘I replied I am the nearest relative to him and made my companions sit behind me. Then he called upon his translator and said to him, ‘Tell them (i.e. Abu Sufyan’s companions) that I am going to ask him (i.e. Abu Sufyan) regarding that man who claims to be a prophet. So if he tells a lie, they should contradict him instantly. By Allah had I not been afraid that my companions would consider me a liar, I would have told lies,’ Abu Sufyan later said.

Abu Sufyan’s (he was still a disbeliever by then) testimony went as follows: ‘Muhammad descends from a noble family. No one of his family happened to assume kingship. His followers are those considered weak, with numbers ever growing. He neither tells lies nor betrays others, we fight him and he fights us but with alternative victory. He bids people to worship Allah Alone with no associate and abandon our fathers’ beliefs. He orders us to observe prayer, honesty and abstinence and to maintain family ties.’

‘Heraclius, on hearing this testimony, turned to his translator ordering him to communicate to us his impression which revealed full confidence in the truthfulness of Muhammad’s prophethood: ‘I fully realize that prophets come from noble families: he does not have any previous example of prophethood. Since none of his ancestors was a king, we cannot the claim that he is a man trying to reclaim his father’s kingdom. So long as he does not tell lies regarding people, he is for more reason, immune to telling lies as regards Allah. Concerning his followers being those considered weak with numbers ever growing that is the case with faith until it is complete. I have understood that no instance of apostasy has as yet appeared among his followers and this points to the bliss of faith that finds its place in the human heart. Betrayal, as I see, is alien to him because real prophets hold themselves from betrayal. You said he orders worship of Allah with no associates, observance of prayer, honesty and abstinence and prohibition of paganism, if this is true, he will soon rule the place beneath my feet. I have already known that a prophet must arise but it has never occurred to me that he will be an Arab from among you. If I was sure, I would be faithful to him: I might hope to meet him and if I were with him, I would wash his feet.’

Heraclius did not embrace Islam for it was differently ordained. However, the Muslim envoy was returned to Madinah with the felicitations of the emperor.’” [The Sealed Nectar, page 418-421]

HIS WORSHIP

If we knew for sure that we will go to jannah, if we knew for sure that all our sins are forgiven, that Allah (S.W.) is pleased with us and that our place in heaven is ready for us, would we bother to worship Allah? Would we still strive to be better worshippers, better believers? Or would we just relax and wait for our time of death to come?

The prophet (p.b.u.h) was granted forgiveness and promised jannah while still alive, yet he did a lot of ibaadah and got close to Allah (S.W.) more than any other human being.

Even before prophethood, Muhammad (p.b.u.h) would seclude himself so as to worship one Lord and avoid idolatry as his people.

According to Al Bukhari and I quote: “The commencement of the divine inspiration to the Messenger of Allah was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed on him. He used to go in seclusion in the Cave of Hira’ where he used to worship [Allah alone] continuously for many days before he would desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to [his wife] Khadija to take food for another stay, until suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the Cave of Hira’. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, “I do not know how to read.” The Prophet added, “The angel caught me [forcefully] and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, ‘I do not know how to read.’ So he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, ‘I do not know how to read.’ So he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said: 

Read in the name of your Lord who created (96.1). He created man from a clot (96.2). Read and your Lord is most honorable (96.3) who teaches by the pen (96.4). He taught man what he did not know (96.5).”

The worshipping habits of the Rasul (S.A.W) is definitely something we should emulate and follow. Here are some of his worship habits:

  • Al-Mughirah ibn Shu’bah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would pray until his feet were swollen. It was said, “Why do you do this when Allah has forgiven your past and future sins?” The Prophet said, “Shall I not be a grateful servant?” (Muslim)

 

  • Narrated ‘Alqama: I asked `Aisha, mother of the believers, “O mother of the believers! How were the deeds of the Prophet? Did he use to do extra deeds of worship on special days?” She said, “No, but his deeds were regular and constant, and who among you is able to do what the Prophet (ﷺ) was able to do (i.e. in worshipping Allah)?” (Bukhari)

 

  • Narrated ‘Aisha: Allah’s Apostle used to offer eleven Rakat and that was his prayer. He used to prolong the prostration to such an extent that one could recite fifty verses (of the Quran) before he would lift his head. He used to pray two Rakat (Sunna) before the Fajr prayer and then used to lie down on his right side till the call-maker came and informed him about the prayer. (Bukhari)

 

  • Narrated Aisha: With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work hard) and used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers. (Bukhari)

 

  • It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “The Prophet used to bring his head close to me when I was menstruaring and he was in I’tikaf (seclusion in a mosques for the purpose of worship), and I would wash it and comb his hair.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

 

  • Narrated Anas bin Malik: Sometimes Allah’s Apostle would not fast (for so many days) that we thought that he would not fast that month and he sometimes used to fast (for so many days) that we thought he would not leave fasting through-out that month and (as regards his prayer and sleep at night), if you wanted to see him praying at night, you could see him praying and if you wanted to see him sleeping, you could see him sleeping.(Bukhari)

 

  • Narrated ‘Aisha: The Prophet was never more regular and particular in offering any Nawafil than the two Rakat (Sunna) of the Fajr prayer. (Bukhari)

 

  • It was narrated that ‘Aishah said the Messenger of Allah would come and say: “Do you have any food for breakfast?” and we would say no, so he would say: “I am fasting.” One day he came to us and we had been given some Hais. He said: “Do you have anything (to eat)?” and we said: “Yes, we have been given some Hais.” He said: “I started the day wanting to fast,” but then he ate. (Sunan an-Nasa’i)

 

  • Narrated by Abu Huraira:”The Prophet used to perform Itikaf every year in the month of Ramadan for ten days, and when it was the year of his death, he stayed in Itikaf for twenty days.”(Bukhari)

 

  • Aisha mentions that: “The Prophet one night stood up for Salah and he stayed in it for so long that I thought the Prophet had passed away or died. When I felt that way I stood up shook his toe and I felt the movement then I laid down again and I heard the Prophet saying in Sajdah “I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and in Your pardon from Your punishment, and in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praises as You praise Yourself.” (Transliteration: Audhu bi ridaka min sakhatika, wa bi muafatika min uqubatika wa bika minka, la uhsiy thana’an alayka, anta kama athnayta ala nafsika).

When he stood up from the Sajdah he asked Aisha, “do you think God’s Prophet has betrayed you?” Aisha responded “No Prophet of God, because of the long Sajdah I thought you had died.” (Hadith from Baihaqi)

 

PROPHET’S DA’AWAH CONSISTED OF:

  1. Calling to the religion of Islam
  2. Calling to tawheed (Oneness of Allah) and Imaan in Allah (S.W.)
  3. Standing firm to the word of God
  4. Enjoining good and forbidding evil
  5. Showing exemplary manners and good behaviour.

 

STYLES OF DOING DA’AWAH

  1. Individual approaches:

The prophet peace be upon him would talk, discuss and call individuals to Islam at the market, on the way, and at any opportunity he got. It is said that he went to visit Abu Jahl 70 times to call him to the true religion.

  1. Group Da’wah

The prophet peace be upon him would sometimes bring together several people at Jabal Abi Qays and inform them of the word of Allah (S.W)

  1. Making promises:

Promises give us hope of what’s to come and make us anticipate the future and all it holds. The prophet peace be upon him having being known as the honest and truthful one, no one used to doubt his words. Therefore, Muhammad peace be upon him would give glad tidings to encourage people to embrace Islam or to increase their imaan.

“During the Hijra (migration from Makkah to Madina), the Prophet (pbuh) met Abu Bakr at his house, and they both traveled to a nearby cave, the Jabal Thur. When the quraysh realized that the Prophet had evaded them, they were furious. They looked for him everywhere and on all roads; they also offered a reward of 100 she-camels for anybody who would bring them the Prophet, dead or alive.

Motivated by the large reward, one of the best trackers in Mecca, Suraqa Ibn Malik, went riding on his horse looking for the Prophet (pbuh) every which way until he found him. Dressed in his armor and sword, Suraqa attempted to kill the Prophet but as soon as he would approach him, his horse would sink into the sand and not budge. He tried several times and when he realized it was a miracle, he said: “Oh Muhammad I know that your religion will spread and that your stance shall rise. Promise me that when you have the upper hand and are in power you will treat me well. I would like you to give me this promise in writing.”

The Prophet ordered Abu Bakr to give him the promise in writing and asked Suraqa to mislead the enemy away from the Prophets hiding place. The Prophet (pbuh) also said: “How would you feel, O Suraqa, when you wear the bracelets of Kisra (the King of Persia at the time Persia)?” There was only one Kisra and everyone knew who this was, but this statement was so shocking that Suraqa ibn Malik had to clarify again: “Kisra!?” The Prophet (saws) said “Yes, Kisra the son of Hermuz.”

These Bracelets were very famous, the equivalent to the Crown Jewels in our days. They were worn by the Persian Kings, who would simply rest their hands in them as a show of power. For a man who was fleeing persecution and on the brink of assassination, this promise seemed hardly possible. Thereafter; Suraqa retreated, and the Prophet proceeded towards Madinah. This was Hijrah, the emigration – a small distance in space, a mighty leap in history, an event that was to become a threshold in the shaping of the Islamic Ummah.

Several years later, Suraqa converted to the religion of Islam and came to Medinah where the Prophet resided. Years passed, and life went on. It was during the Caliphite of ‘Umar Ibn Al Khattab, Suraqa joined the army which later prevailed over the Persians in the battle of Qadisiyya and the booty was brought to Medinah. Among them, was the crown of Kisra, his clothes sewn out of gold thread, his scarf adorned with precious jewels, and his bracelets like which nobody had ever seen before. ‘Umar shouted: “Where is Suraqa Ibn Malik?” So he came and wore the bracelets of Kisra. He walked around with them proudly, tears flooding from his eyes, saying: “Behold, the honest and the trustworthy Muhammad (pbuh) has told the truth after 20 years. He has kept his promise.” ‘Umar then raised his head to the heavens above and said: “Oh Allah, You did not reward this wealth to your Prophet, and he was closer to You and loved by You more than I, neither did You reward this wealth to Abu Bakr and he was closer to You and loved by You more than I, and You gave it to me. I seek refuge from You in what You have given me and hope that this is not a test from You in which I fail.” [imedbham.webs.com.   1. Having discussions and debates

The prophet used to have stimulating conversations, discussions and debates as a way of teaching and imparting knowledge to both muslims and non-muslims. The prophet (s.a.w) once had a conversation with one of the non-muslims. The prophet asked him how many gods he believed in and the qureishi answered that he believed in six gods. The prophet asked him where the gods were and the qureishi answered that five of the gods were in earth and one is in the heavens. The prophet asked the qureishi which god he depended on most when he had difficulties and the qureishi answered that he depended on the one that is in the heavens. The prophet of Allah thus told him that he should then only worship the God that is in the heavens and leave the rest. This was a way of awakening the qureishi and a way of imparting knowledge such that a person could come to self-realization.

  1. Showing kindness

Kindness is the language that all humankind understands and appreciates. What better way to show how beautiful our religion Islam is than to be kind to the people? Muhammad peace be upon him was the most kind human being and naturally, people were drawn to him for that.

Anas bin Malik, radi Allahu ‘anhu, narrated, “The Messenger of Allah was never asked for a thing by one who may be about to accept Islam, except that he would give it. A man came to the Prophet, who gave him a herd of sheep filling an area between two mountains. When that man returned to his people, he said to them: ‘O my people! Embrace Islam. Muhammad gives, like one who has no fear of poverty.’”

Anas, radi Allahu ‘anhu, said the person initially embraced Islam for the sake of the world, but later Islam became dearer to him than the world and what it contains. (Muslim)

I hope you are in good health and state of Imaan. A lady by the name of Nuru Salim is suffering from endometriosis which makes it extremely painful for her. She desperately needs an operation in India of which needs about 500,000/= kenyan shillings. We are currently at 41,946/=  and still very far away from the target…but wallahy we can do this.
